Description

Life's not easy for Doug Eiffel, the communications officer for the U.S.S. Hephaestus Research Station, currently on Day 448 of its orbit around red dwarf star Wolf 359. He's stuck on a scientific survey mission of indeterminate length, 7.8 light years from Earth. His only company on board the station are stern mission chief Minkowski, insane science officer Hilbert, and Hephaestus Station's sentient, often malfunctioning operating system Hera. He doesn't have much to do for his job other than monitoring static and intercepting the occasional decades-old radio broadcast from Earth, so he spends most of his time creating extensive audio logs about the ordinary, day-to-day happenings within the station. But the Hephaestus is an odd place, and life in extremely isolated, zero gravity conditions has a way of doing funny things to people's minds. Even the simplest of tasks can turn into a gargantuan struggle, and the most ordinary-seeming things have a way of turning into anything but that. Wolf 359 is a radio drama in the tradition of Golden Age of Radio shows. Take one part space-faring adventure, add one part character drama, and mix in one part absurdist sitcom, and you get Wolf 359. New episodes are released every two weeks.

Well done. Playful humour, and after you get into it a bit the characters & plot really start to fill out. It’s charming, funny and endearing. Production quality is good, too.

I really enjoy this show. The humour is spot on and the drama is engaging. The music and sound effects help create an immersive experience. Also, it’s binge-worthy for those of us who were late on the uptake and now have the entire show completed for us to listen to. Just want to say “well done” to the creators. I know they’ve already wrapped up the show, but well done all the same.

Very smart, funny, suspenseful, dramatic, action-filled, this show literally has everything. I’m actually a nerd for this show and will be buying the Price and Carter’s Deep Space Survival Procedure and Protocol Guide! I’m listening to the series for the second time and will continue listening to it. On the DL, I totally have a crush on Hera, and I love the character development for ALL the characters in the mini episodes. The very ONLY thing that annoys me is Loveless’ ASMR when she talks.. I literally hurt my ears at times and makes me cringe.. I love Loveless, but that really drives me nuts. All in all I rate this a 10 out of 5. I wish it turned into a tv show or at least had a follow up season, which I have sooooo many ideas for!!! My whole work crew has now listened to it and all love it.. just none as needy as me :)
Update: I’m on my 3rd time listening to this series.. I can’t stop! I seriously wish they’d somehow continue for another couple seasons or that they’d create a new series with the same cast. Also I have “Paradise Valley” by Honey and the Sting saved on my YouTube and it’s the #1 played song on my list. I don't want this show to be something that happened in the past.. I’M ADDICTED!!!!!
2nd Update: well.. I’ve tried almost ever other audio drama podcast and nothing matches Wolf359.. guess I’m on to my 4th time listening :)
Have I mentioned I’m addicted?

Highly recommend

Starts a little slow and low budget but slowly builds, layer upon layer until the end. The story creates a slow backstory that is carefully filled in with time. The story gets more and more interesting with time. Well worth your time

I seriously love Eiffel’s attitude and seemingly complete refusal (with most things) to take anything serious at all. If I’m feeling to anxious and rigid in my life, I put on some episodes and feel the tensions melt away and mimic his approach to things and general vibe. He’s a friend I’ll be taking with me long after I stop listening.

This podcast is amazing! I love the writing! It’s hilarious, witty and heartwarming. The story is so captivating. Even though production has ended and the story is over I think people still need to know about this. I’m also really glad that the writers weren’t afraid to end the story. There aren’t enough good fiction podcast out there and this is one of those rare gems.

I’m listening to this podcast for the third time and that should say enough on its own. In fact, I can’t believe that I’m only leaving a review now. Every time I relisten to an episode I’m filled with the beauty and the wonder that I experienced the first time I listened. Even if now I know the eventual outcome I still find little things that I missed on the first listen through (the goal of the third listen through is to figure out what is in box 953). This is an amazing amazing
podcast and if you haven’t listened to it yet you should go do that, NOW. I’ll wait.
UPDATE: I figured out what’s in box 953. It’s pretty easy to solve and I think that you, yes you, the person reading this review, can figure it out probably in under the amount of time and listen throughs that I took.

I suffered through 7 episodes and I'm still waiting for it to get good. I guess due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews my expectations were very high. It's slightly entertaining and more annoying than anything.
*UPDATE*
The answer is: Bear with it for about 10-12 episodes. Seems like a lot, but the rewards that await on the other side are unquantifiable. Hands down the BEST fictional podcast out there. Makes anything PNWS look like child's play.

The Greatest Audio Drama of All Time

Wolf 359 is, without a doubt in my mind, the best audio drama I've ever heard. I've already listened all the way through it multiple times, and I'm sure I will come back to it time and again throughout my life. What starts as a sci-fi sitcom quickly develops an intense, dramatic plot, while retaining the comedic moments. The characters are well-crafted and play off of each other perfectly. Not to mention the plot, the pacing, the production, and the MUSIC. The score of this show is just absurdly good. I honestly cannot recommend Wolf 359 highly enough.

I'm not joking when I say that this is one of the greatest works of science fiction that I've ever experienced! I love it so much and I binged it in a week and a half. I love each and every character (though I want to punch a third of them in the face, but that's just good writing) they are all so well written and they all seem like they could be real people (maybe not cutter or price though?). I'm going to recommend this to anyone who will listen until the end of my days. I am not kidding when I say that this podcast is worth the time. It has an amazing story to tell, and it's production value is huge! Thank you guys so much!!!

The characters are all incredible and enjoyable, even the villains! The plot is intriguing and keeps you on the edge of your seat, impatiently waiting for the next episode (amazing use of cliffhangers btw). The soundtrack is one of the best in podcasting right now and the voice actors blow it out of the water every single week.

Stumbling on this podcast was such a happy accident. A little bit wonderfully goofy, in the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy vein, but with enough realism to keep you gripped. Fantastic steam-punk/retro technology sound effects help set a unique tone. Getting more hooked with each episode. Great work!

I actually love this podcast so much and even though I'm only at the beginning, if they hurt the little cinnamon bun crew then I will angrily make faces in public that no one will understand and they will all avoid the crazy chick who seems to be struggling not to yell at non existent things. Also the sound effects are fantastic, would recommend to anyone with a slice of sci-fi and time to listen.

I just caught up and I can’t freaking wait for season 4!!!! I love the crew and the zany/surreal/creepy vibe of this whole lovely show. And thank you for Hera’s most recent storyline because I think it might have cured my anxiety disorder? Or at least put me on the path finally getting it under control - it’s just a nasty bit of code in my hardware that someone slipped in while I was young and not paying attention!

I am so happy that I found this show, because it is truly splendid. It's probably one of my favourite podcasts. I find the sound design to be great, but the real gem of the show is how the show manages to have so much humour despite being in a "serious" situation. This is the podcast I am most happy to see with a new episode available, and I love all the characters. A truly spectacular show that you'll just want to keep on listening to.

This show is near and dear to my heart. Truly great storytelling, voice acting, and production quality make it one of the standouts of my past year. It begins as a light-hearted sitcom with just enough of the delightfully absurd to stand out and quickly adds in elements of drama and heartbreak that really push it into another level. The characters are loveable, hate-able, complex, and surprising in ways that I haven’t experienced in many other podcasts. Truly great work and I cannot wait to hear more!

Wolf 359 emulates the style of an old-time radio show. The writing and voice acting is ham fisted in a way that entertains and delights, and there's an energetic atmosphere. While I'm admittedly more of a fan of darker and more introspective stories, Wolf 359 strikes a wonderful balance in its Sci-Fi Dramedy style.
My favourite part of the podcast is the platonic environment, and that it really emphasizes character growth, communication and friendship. I feel like the characters are strongly written and are fairly relatable despite their over exaggerated traits.
I have a few criticisms which is why I couldn't give it five stars, but this podcast is still great! However the voice talent is the strongest I've heard among various podcasts (Zach/Zack? Sorry! Not sure which - but he is very talented and I'm a big fan, and I love Maxwells voice as well) and the writing style sometimes rubs me the wrong way. There's a continued habit of characters interrupting other characters, usually when explaining something scientific, which I'm sure is meant to be a clever way out of having to write every detail of fictional science but it happens so often that it comes off as lazy. I also have noticed that the logs are no longer...logs. I understand why, because there are many characters and Doug isn't the listeners eyes and ears anymore, but I do miss the Dear Listeners introduction and Doug just chatting to himself.
Otherwise I'm a big fan of all the characters, especially Doug. I look forward to more!
