Love It!

I can’t stop listening to this podcast. The banter and humour is great, and I love hearing all the funny and insightful commentary on some interesting reads. Needless to say, my reading list has exponentially grown. The only problem is that I want to read all the books at once!

Like being in a book club without having to leave the house or interact with humans.

Currently my favourite podcast: intelligent but light-hearted, covering a broad range of books from classics to modern bestsellers.

Negative and I don’t get it

I listened to one early episode about a book I just finished. I was hoping for an in-depth discussion of the story, characters, what worked, what didn’t, etc. Instead, one guy summarized the plot of the book, while the two main guys interrupted him to make dumb jokes and crap all over it. A book they hadn’t even read! What is the point of the podcast if they disparage a book they know nothing about? (Episode 033, The Stand). Maybe the other episodes aren’t structured like this, but I see no reason to try another one.

A Host-Match made in heaven

Craig and Andrew both bring such great and different things to the podcast and to their dynamic. The way their perspectives balance each other out has become one of my favourite things about listening to Overdue. I’m quite sure I would enjoy listening to them read their grocery lists to each other, but instead, they work hard to create interesting, well-informed and nuanced conversations around the books they read. Thank you for bringing such thoughtfulness, laughter, and literary joy to my life every week!

Wholesome Fun Boys

I listen to a bunch of podcasts but have never left a review. But I’ll change my behaviour for Andrew and Craig.
This is an A+ podcast, I recommend it to everybody. Andrew and Craig are a joy to listen to, even when they’re barely holding back contempt for a book they’ve read. They also do a great job trying to make sure they explore more marginalized groups of authors.
Listen to these two boys!

Wonderful

A great podcast if you love books. Even when they don’t enjoy the book they’ve read (ie Twilight...) they still make time to highlight some things the authors did well. Craig and Andrew have great chemistry and a charming sense of humour. Wonderful and charming! 10/10

Highly recommend!

I’ve only recently found this podcast but I’m already an avid fan and had recommended it to many people. Not only is it hilarious and greatly entertaining, it also provides some highly clever insights about books that I had read that made me view them a different way. I highly recommend this to any book lover or anyone who just wants a podcast that will entertain you and make you laugh while teaching you something at the same time.

Love it!

Great job Craig and Andrew!
How else can you get to know the most important facts of a well-known book in about an hour? This podcast is helpful to be able to have conversations about tons of books as if you’ve read them yourself!
I also enjoy the facts and side conversations related to each of the books. You guys are clever and fun to listen to. Keep doing what you do!

Great rapport and now I can skip Infinite Jest

Craig and Andrew have a great rapport. It makes you feel like you’re sitting in on a conversation between friends. I also like their critical views of so-called canonical literature. Episodes are funny, yet informative. My favourite episodes are Redwall, The Rats of Nimh, and The Time Traveler’s Wife.

Glad I have so much runway

It's a thrill to find a new podcast that you love and have tons of episodes to get caught up on. The greatest thing about this is that there's a certain amount of respect for the classics and love of literature, but it's not at all pretentious.

Decent Content. Casual Racism.

The guys have an ok sense of humour. They go over the books superficially, and they oftentimes ridicule a book or an author. Also, they often belittle and throw shade at white people, which is unacceptable for a popular podcast.

Ugh

Im so sick of all these podcasts going so pc on their audiences. Do you not realize you are polarizing your audience? Used to love now I can't stand sorry

Wonderful!

I absolutely love this podcast. It is very witty and fun. I find myself laughing outloud sometimes. Being francophone I was a lilttle worried that I would miss some things, but the vocabulary and diction are perfect for me to not miss anything. I started by listening to the episodes about books I already read and found them very entertaining. Now I am on a mission, and I will listen to all of them!
Oh! and the funny thing is I found out about this podcast on a Ravelry forum (Ravelvy is for knitters) because a lot of knitters like to listen to audiobooks while they knit. A few podcasts about book reading where suggested and I checked them out, but Overdue is the only one which kept my attention.

I love it!!

I love this podcast! I might sound silly but to like a podcast, I have to like people’s voices and yours sound so friendly. I love listening to you on the bus or when I’m walking. It makes me feel less lonely. Plus, books are my favorite thing so this podcast is perfect.

Books Not Taken Too Seriously

Andrew and Craig visit a book a week for some synopsis, some analysis and some laughs. I love that these two don’t take themselves too seriously but still give some analysis and I can get a good idea of whether I want to pursue reading each book. Having listened to the entire back catalog, I now have a list of “books to read” longer than I’ll ever get to, envy (and sympathy) for the boys’ wives and the urge to travel to Philly (from the wilds of western Canada) to meet the duo in person.

Making Monday's worth it

Overdue has single-handedly made Monday mornings worth it again. I no longer stare at my screen with a slack-jawed look of sleep deprevation while I try to consume as much coffee as I can before anyone notices.

Great podcast about books!

Absolutely great podcast that does a nice job of mixing humor w/ some more serious discussion about books. It's replaced all other podcasts for me over the last few weeks, at least until I listen through all the episodes about books I have already read. I really appreciate how Andrew & Craig are able to find positives/good discussion points about books even if they didn't necessarily enjoy them.

Great Book Podcast

I'm a late-comer to this book podcast but I'm an enthusiastic joiner-inner. Listening to Andrew and Craig talk about the books has become a commute staple for me and I'm steadily working my way through their back episodes. Funny and thoughtful, this is my favourite new-to-me podcast of 2016. (And I haven't even listened to the '50 Shades' episodes yet!)

Solid

Quality pod I've been listening to the back catalogue- the eps on books I've already read and the ones I probably won't read. It's motivating me to read books /I've/ been meaning to. Also Andrew reminds me of Griffin McElroy which is always good. And the opening banter is gr8

Really Interesting!

Really like this podcast! A very interesting and unique idea. I really only listen to the podcasts that cover a book that i am familliar with. Its cool to see differing opinions, and i always get a bit fired up when they trash talk a book i loved haha (see the Bossy Pants episode! lol)

Simply Amazing!

Heard about this podcast from the Headgum network, and I'm so glad I started listening! This podcast is everything you need to hear differing perspective for books you have read and other books to put on the list to read! Cannot recommend this more!

Yay!!

I was looking for a conversational/fun literature-related podcast and I couldn't find one that fit my criteria. Low and behold! Along comes Overdue. Accessible, not at all stuffy. Talking about important/known books. Funny and entertaining. "Quantum pants" will forever be my favourite.

Charming

This podcast does something many in its genre fail to do, they mix comedy and personality in with an earnest and insightful discussion of the book. Rather than just reading a series of facts, they weave in and out with charming commentary and the colour of their personal relationship. Excellent work, keep it up Andrew and Craig.

Awesome work!

Hey Andrew and Craig,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this podcast. I've been reading ArsTechnica for several years, and discovered this podcast through a mention Andrew made in one of his articles. I truly appreciate your witty banter and very profound discussions on current social issues (such as the recent Beloved episode), and they have been an amazing companion during some long commutes. All the best in the future!

The conversations that I wish my friends would have with me about books...

I've been scrolling through the playlist, listening to episodes for books that I have already read.
I've also bumped a few books up in my reading list so that I can listen to Andrew and Craig be excellent and ridiculous.
I mad an exception for the 50 Shades books, and I'm glad that I did--I can't think of a better way to experience that material than through the hosts' giggling and uncomfortable descriptions.

I’ve been looking for this

There are a lot of literary podcasts out there, but most of them are either interviews with contemporary authors or reviews of new releases. I love books but let’s be honest: unless you don’t have a day job or any other demands on your time then you’re not going to be able to read the great majority of any given year's thousands of new releases—let alone care about what each of their authors have to say about their inspiration or whatnot. You’ll likely read a few new titles each year, but you’ll also continue working your way through some of the books that were significant, weird or interesting enough to have survived the test of time. This podcast is about those. Even if you haven’t yet read the book in question for any given episode, you’ll at least add to your general literary knowledge by listening in, so it never feels like a waste of time. The icing on the cake is that the show is hosted by a couple of relatable, amusing guys whose casual chit-chat is very entertaining.

A great find

I found out about this podcast through a blogging friend of mine and because of her review, I was intrigued and after listening to a few podcasts, I was hooked. Love how Andrew and Craig interact with each other and I also like how each podcast focuses on a single book. Highly recommended.

Intelligent, witty and charming

I just discovered this podcast and it's my new favourite. Craig and Andrew are at once articulate and funny, and their in-depth reviews are some of the most intelligent I've heard. Their review of Outlander is probably the best review of that book (one of my favourites) I've ever heard - they really got into the interesting underlying themes of the book rather than glossing over the surface details and action (for example: can a woman have agency in 18th century Scotland; how does a time traveller's perspective frame the story; how to consider infidelity; how does a marriage work). I can't wait to hear more episodes.

Finally a Podcast I Listen To Fully Completely

Truth be told, I have yet to listen to any podcast from start to finish, I enjoy many podcasters and various topics. However I have an impatient streak, I skip, tune out, or simply end the show, bye, bye.
But hold on, along comes ‘Overdue’, love this from start to finish. I find myself agreeing with the books we all ‘should have read’ but for whatever reason, did not ( I must have started Moby Dick 50 times, but could never finish it...yawn.) the conversations are bang on, funny and so relatable. Thank you Andrew and Craig, you have made me realize I do not have ADD after all.

Funny, Informative, & Entertaining

This is one of my two favourite bookish podcasts - it's funny, informative, and entertaining. My only "problem" with it is now that I've caught up on all of the older episodes, I have to wait a week for the next new one!

I agree; it's my new favourite, too!

I love how each episode is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of one book. It's like a mini book club session. It's smart, entertaining, and leaves me grinning ridiculously most of the time. I highly recommend it to any book lover!
