This article examines the role of NATO in deterring threats to non-member states. The recent crisis in Ukraine has raised the question of the responsibility for NATO to intervene in security threats beyond the alliance’s borders, particularly in instances that affect the stability of the regional neighborhood. The author also highlights the need for further burden sharing with international partners.
