Strongbox is an application for keeping all your passwords safely stored and protected by one master password. Supporting the open source Password Safe and KeePass formats.

Feels like a first party app!

Strongbox is an amazing iOS application that integrates exceptionally well with the iOS platform. While supporting multiple KeePass password safe standard, it manages to feel like a first-party experience rather than a cobbled together bunch of software libraries. Keep up the good work!

I previously rated this app two stars because of what I believed to be an unfriendly pricing model and an obnoxious nagware pop up every day when I opened the freeware version. I am updating my review to three stars because it seems like the nagware pop up has been removed, or at least greatly reduced in frequency. Thank you to the developer.

I still disagree with the pricing model but that’s the developer’s prerogative to set the price however they choose. It’s their livelihood, after all. I would likely purchase the app to support them if they offered a “lite” version at a reasonable *one-time* cost that provided the basics (open files, add/edit/remove entries, save files). I really don’t need the advanced features of the full price version. I urge them to consider this, as I’m sure it would attract many more buyers who are only looking for a simple way to store their passwords safely on their device.

For those where price is no object, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the app.

well done

I have tried several password utilities and this one is by far one of the bests. Particularly their customer service who I had two deal with couple of times and they were extremely helpful.

The best part of this app is that the database is stored is user’s tenant and it is fully compatible with KEE program used in Windows/MacOS.

I am using Family edition and I highly recommend this app.

Freemium Nagging

KeePass is an Open Source platform with excellent feature and an incredible community. Strongbox is the same!

It’s a disappointment that the free vs pro versions have such a discrepancy and that pro pricing value isn’t there.

I downloaded because of great reviews and multiple pricing plans. But in reality all I need from this platform is a bit of security in the form of Touch ID, PIN, wipe on failure and password management.

I applaud you for making a great app if we pay monthly or lifetime but the value just isn’t there for the price being asked.

I guess you didn’t expect many users so you increased the base price. But if you charge $1/month or $40 for lifetime; that means I have to trust you to actively support this application for 3.5 to 4 years.

That trust just isn’t there. I would have actually given you 5 stars regardless of the pricing model since that’s your choice if the pop up wasn’t so annoying.

$1/month is fair

$10/year is fair

$20-25 for lifetime is fair

Not a fan of monthly subscriptions personally.

That’s just my opinion, but if I was you. I would decrease the pop up to be once a day and not per open. Best of luck.

Issue fixed.

Autofill issue seems to have been fixed with the last update. I had convenience pin turned on. Every time i opened the app to autofill it would fail to read key file and require me to enter masterpassword and set a new convenience pin.

Great App, Very Responsive Creator

Everything works so seamlessly (autofill and syncing), I often forget I am even using the app. The new audit features were the last things on my wishlist for the app, so I think it’s pretty much perfect at this point.

The app creator is extremely responsive to bug fixes and feature requests (either via email, Reddit, or Github).

I was trying to think of any cons to put in this review, but I honestly couldn’t think of any. If you use Keepass for password management, I think it would be silly to use any other app on iOS.

Not quite there

Let me start out by saying that I want to use StrongBox, it’s got some great features, good flow; you can tell that Mark has put a lot of thought into the app. That said, I will probably look for something else. At least for me, it’s missing a ‘must have’ usability feature. I have been using MiniKeePass, and as many of you will know, it’s a little long in the tooth as well as being very basic. It’s no longer supported by the developer so I need a replacement. The one key feature it did support is TouchID. After using it for a while, I just can’t get by without it. If you are required to type in a 20 character password every time you open the app, you will go crazy. (I ended up doing a huge security no-no before Touch came along - I used a 4 digit code). I know, I’m ashamed.

So unless you want spring for the paid version, you risk going down the same road I did and end up with a poorly protected password database.

I would encourage Mark to rethink where he is drawing the line between the free and premium versions of the app. I am a developer and so I am completely onboard with making a living while supporting the community, and that’s why I’m spending the effort to write this review. I think the change will attract more users, that will then convert to paid users over time.

Been using the outdated MiniKeePass app for a few years. This app offers everything I needed and wanted. The developer is very talented and more importantly active on this particular project.

Outstanding Feature Set & Excellent Developer Support

I have trusted Keepass compatible desktop applications for more than a decade, but have been disappointed and leery with most of the App Store iOS implementations and ports. It was with much hope that downloaded and evaluated Strongbox.

After several months of use, cycling through most, if not all, of the options, and receiving prompt support from the developer, I was sold!

Mark has developed a fantastic iPhone Keepass app that I respect and trust with my data. To keep the support coming, I signed up for a subscription - good code and rock solid security are worth every cent.

To quote an iPhone appropriate phrase, “Two Thumbs Up!” (And BTW, I have it on my iPad too.)

Good evolution of iOS KeePass manager

This is a good step up from some more basic iOS KeePass programs such as MiniKeePass

Good support for whatever storage you use. Nice password generator including “xkcd” style passwords. Integration with Safari/as well if you choose to set it up.

Awesome app, many thanks to the developer

I’ve been using MiniKeePass for years and I have been compelled to look for something else when it failed to open my database lately due to some incompatibility (and doesn’t seem to be actively developed these days). Boy am I glad I looked around and found Strongbox! Being able to open directly from the cloud is a godsend, the lack of ads is amazing, and the developer is very generous to provide core features in the free version. I encourage everyone to try it out. I don’t see any user interface issues or major quirks. One thing I notice that I was used to before was if I type the database password wrong, I have to retype it all again and can’t just go back and correct it.

Great KeyPass app

I’m using this app to sync database to onedrive account, so that the database is available on PC’s too. App has had its quirks, but the developer works really hard to keep it patched, and is VERY responsive on e-mails for support. Even answering on the weekend. Would definitely recommend this to other people

Perfect

I have used many different forks of Keepass on many different devices and Operating systems (both desktop and mobile) and this one is by far my favourite. The Pro subscription is, in my opinion, a very good deal and totally worth it.

Great App

This is a great app and I highly recommend it. Ever since he update the interface has been even smoother to work with. Less boxes popping up. Mark also provides excellent and quick support should you have any issues.

Lifetime edition way too expensive

I understand you want to get payed for your work, but cranking the price of the Lifetime versions each update is unacceptable (and won’t go unnoticed, if that is what you were going for). 40$ for the lifetime version is just pure greed at this point.

Great companion to Keepass

What I like:

- compatible with latest version of Keepas

- Works with IOS autofill (for apps or browser)

-great support from developper

-new features added regularly as developper listens to users needs

- easy to read fonts

- many ways to sync database other ios devices and PC including Icloud which is very convenient

- No adds in free version.

In order to get usage of touch ID you need to purchase the pro version.

I tried many other similar apps and this one is the one I now used everyday.

Strongbox: Best password safe EVER!!

Strongbox has a good clean interface and is super easy to use! It also has a MacOS version which coupled with iCloud makes managing passwords seamless across devices. I love this app!!

Fantastic App

My Favourite or its kind in the App Store. Be sure to note there is also a version for your Mac which makes this a complete solution for your desk and on the go. Very well done. I complained when this became a pay app, but it is really just so worth it. Thank you to the developer!

Great solution!

Love the addition of a TouchID capability above what the original iOS Password Safe app offers. Finally easy enough for my wife to use, and cloud sync options make sharing our family safe easy-peasy.

Would love a "first letter quick navigation" capability, but the search is great. And would love a "local only/iTunes import export" capability as well. With those, I think I could eliminate the original Password Safe app completely - for now, StrongBox is my day to day go to, with Password Safe in reserve for my lingering uber-secure needs.

Perfect for freelancers!

As A freelancer I manage a variety of different client accounts as well as my own. I always had problems forgetting passwords or losing passwords that were stored in various places around the web. Strongbox has made my life so much easier. I no longer look unprofessional forgetting client accounts, and I never have to sit on the phone for hours waiting for my bank to reset forgotten and rarely used passwords. Use it on my phone and iPad and have never had any technical issues! App is safe, secure, and practical!
