Good but crashes
Good way to talk to people but every few months, the app crashes and won’t let you access the app. The way I know who to stop this is to delete and reinstall the app but it deletes your ongoing conversations which I don’t like. Please fix this !!!

I am enjoying this app but one thing bothers me a lot!
Whenever I am scrolling down the feed, random pictures open up without my intention. I am thinking it happens when you you stop scrolling on a picture because it never happens when I scroll it with my right side hand to avoid the picture area. Please fix it. Thanks!

Really helpful, except...
They use to have the nearby option as free and that was really helpful, because I was able to meet friends that way to practice a language. Ever since they made that a membership thing, it’s not free. Just seems like another way to take money.

Everything was going good until it erased all of the people I talked with, and their messages. Please fix this glitch, because I can’t message them again unless I wait another day and another day etc.

Horrible customer service
So I been using this app for a while now to learn. I don’t know why but my account got suspended. So I went to email them about my issue. I created a learning group and constantly been developing my language skills. I notified customer service and they told me the problem is tht I been telling people my ethnicity background ?!? I mean first of all they don’t have the right to question your ethnicity because it’s totally irrelevant with what it has to do with learning. So if the developers see this can you please reactivate my account. Thanks.
Also for advice. I think it’s better you have a blocking option instead of reporting a person base on ethnicity because if your not educated on cultural backgrounds you shouldn’t be deciding wht background you are from !!! 😡

Nearby and voice and help others moments are not working otherwise I would put 5 stars. I paid for the lifetime subscription.

Great, but needs a couple settings/features
I really like the app. It’s a great tool for learning and all the translation/correction/audio features are great!!
My big problem with the app is that there’s no way to limit how many messages you get. I’ve gotten over 20 new conversation requests in a day. And I love that there’s always someone there if you want, but I can’t maintain that many conversations at a time. I feel bad about ghosting people, so I wish you could put a limit on how many active conversations you want on your account. That way it would certainly be more manageable

But for some reason it doesn’t synch properly between my devices. The conversations are missing. And it’s really limited in some ways, even with premium. Your privacy and security settings are limited and even how many people you can contact is. The problem is the vast majority of people don’t reply so you end up not even able to chat to anyone

Terrible
I was using this app for months and it was pretty useful for taking to other language learners. The last month, my posts have not been visible to anyone else for some reason. I have not done anything that would lead to being blacklisted or anything. I can only comment on other people’s posts and message, but no longer receive any feedback for my posts. Tried to contact support but they do not answer. Huge waste of my time

Great community and developer support
Love this app! Has a limited number of translations to tempt you into paying for it. Within a week I decided to get the paid version because I enjoyed using it so much. It has room for improvement in the user interface but it’s functionality is exactly what I was looking for in learning German. It’s “corrections” feature is really at the heart and where I get the most from it. You can give feedback in a direct chat with the HT team and they have been very responsive so far. They also have great support for flagging spammers etc. you can even complain easily about people violating the terms of service to use it as a dating service :)

Way too much censorship on this app. You cannot say anything negative about China .. you cannot mention HK. It’s filled with arrogant mainland Chinese fake accounts . They shadow ban words and don’t ever explain why

Great language learning app, from a 17-year-olds perspective
I am a 17-year-old girl Learning dutch and Norwegian and this app has been very helpful. If I could give this app more than five stars I would gladly do it. The Partners that I’ve had i’ve been very kind and friendly. Had a few mean partners but that was only A small portion.Sa Sadly I’ve The the app A while ago i’m thinking of re-joining but I’m not sure if I can register again.

Fraud
I’ve been using this for more than a year and one day they stopped me from sending messages claiming that account is suspended for fake identity. Provided my license for identity and for some reason they’re asking for my passport to prove my identity which doesn’t make any sense at all. This is an educational app and proved by email not by passport or ID

Great app for language learning
I really like HelloTalk. It lets me post sentences written in the language I’m learning as well as audio, and native speakers can correct my post and record the correct pronunciation. I also use HelloTalk to ask native speakers questions on word usage and how to say things. The HelloTalk community is very supportive and it makes learning a new language fun.
I highly recommend this app. :)

The app itself is alright but now i get a chat about hello korean, which is korean lessons on the app. And you have to pay for them, but all they are is “Talk to me in Korean” lessons that are offered for FREE on their website and app. Why try to scam people?

I feel harassed.
I've wanted to re-register an account on Hellotalk so e-mailed them, they asked me to send an ID, I e-mailed my driver's license then next they ask me my nationality when it clearly says "CANADA" on the card, then next they ask me what "real gender?" when it again clearly says on the card. Common sense???? If they're not even going to look at the card, then why ask for it?? I'm genuinely confused.

Awesome way to communicate with native speakers
This is a awesome way to be able to communicate with true natives from the areas you want to learn from. It’s a great add on to your studying where you can improve and speak to native speakers of the language you are learning and be able to have them correct you and you also help correct them as well
For anyone trying to learn a language I highly recommend this as an add on to your daily or weekly studies, there is nothing quite like being able to speak to an actual person of the language you are learning, and getting to know them more and really connect.

Terrible app with censorship
I tried this app for a month to practice my writing in French, I have talked about some political subjects about China and they blocked my posts to viewers in mainland China without a notice to me. Very bad CPP guys, not recommended.

Too many weirdos tbh
From what I’ve experienced there are more people who want to date/be friends rather than people who actually want to practice learning. I’ve had probably like 5 guys who have goma completely insane over me and I’ve had to block, so just keep in mind you’ll be lucky to find someone professional.

It looks like a legit app to learn languages but all they want is to use your personal information for advertising purposes. Since I installed this app my Iphone is also not working properly. Deleting it fid not help. They violate your privacy and send you virusses

This morning i woke up and looked at my notifications, some were messages from HelloTalk so I open up the app and wait for the messages to pop up from the peoples names but they won’t. The messages aren’t being shown in the chat. So I can’t talk to anyone now.
