Description
Download and view topographic maps covering Canada.
Topographic maps are useful for recreational activities such as hiking, canoeing, camping, fishing, mountain biking, geocaching, and exploring.
MAPS
Choose from 3 map sources: Canada Base Map (shaded/unshaded), and Toporama.
OFFLINE
Download maps for areas of interest to view them later when you don't have Internet access or you don't want to use cell data.
TRACKING
Use location tracking to show where you are on the map, your elevation, and the accuracy of the GPS signal.
FLAGS
Flags are included with map downloads. Add flags (waypoints) to the map to mark your current location or other locations. Import flags from other sources using GPX files and geocache LOC files. Share flags with others using email or AirDrop. Organize your flag types by color, for example, geocaches, trailheads, and summits.
TRAILS
Trails are included with map downloads. Import trails (tracks) using GPX files you find on the Internet or from your personal GPS track collection. Share trails with others using email or AirDrop. Organize your trail types by color, for example, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, and OHV trails.
TRAIL RECORDING
Record your own trails to show where you've been on the map, follow them later, and share with others.
ELEVATION PROFILE
Recorded trails include an elevation profile (distance/elevation chart).
NAVIGATION
Navigate to a flag by following the direction arrow that uses your compass heading. Useful for geocaching.
MEASURE
Measure the distance between points on the map.
Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Invaluable in the bush
Used this so many times now I can’t even guess at how many. I love to take the path less trodden and when I get a little disoriented, I can always trust this app to have my back and get me home.

Great but want more
This is a great map app for navigation. I would love more features, the ability to import tracks from other recreationalists, and view sati lite photos. Is there a paid version that allows for this on an iPhone?

Different to AllTrails, but better
Doesn’t have the shared comments etc like AllTrails, but is a reliable, low battery drain mapping app which has never let me down in the Canadian Rockies. Download your maps in advance, and you are good to go.
You can also set markers and record trails.
5 stars easy.

Good apps. Improvment recommandation
Vert good app vert. Accurate im using it for a couple of year mow for trekking ans hunting very usefull But one thing is missing. When recording. The total time of the records that would be very nice if you could add it to the trail record

Lean and Mean
It’s a great resource. Snappy UI, clean, intuitive, and packed with everything you need for an adventure—all without shaking you down like the big annual fee competitors. GPX is straightforward to import, too, if you want to borrow a trail from the masses.

The only thing that is missing is iCloud storage of Flags and Trails. It would be awesome when moving to a new device to have everything just transfer in automatically.

Good but not great
I have the app and downloaded many area maps of interest. Had to backup my iPad and restore as I had an issue with the OS. Problem I have is I lost all my downloaded maps. I would have thought they would have been backed up when the iPad was backed up.

Great backcountry navigation app
Just finished a three day hike in the backcountry and this app was the most reliable mapping app on my phone. Always quick to pick up a signal and very accurate. Highly recommend.

Ok for hiking and biking but not off-roading.
Don’t count on this app for backcountry exploration. Very few backroads on maps.

Works good
Very good and detailed map with many trails. One feature I would like to see added is a way to draw your own routes on the map without having to drag your finger on the screen. This would be very useful to me.

Cool
Sweet app, I use it for hunting, hiking, everything outdoors. Can you please update this with a compass or something? The top of the Yukon map is not north, and you can’t spin the map at all which would be an awesome feature. If you can get it so you can turn the map NESW it would be perfect

Nice Features but Issue with Map Orientation
I’ve used this app for a couple of years now and it is very useful and has some nice features (eg. Free-hand distance calculation, route recording) however I have never been able to figure out how to orient the topos such that north is straight up. This is an important shortcoming when trying to compare the topos in the app with paper topos, other apps or photographic imagery. I really wish this could be fixed!

Fantastic Topo maps of Canada
I’ve used this app for a few months now and it’s definitely worth the download. It’s accurate, dependable and easy to use. I like the POI database that comes with it and the additional information available for every point that you tap on. It gives a fast GPS fix on my phone and is very useful. Highly recommended.

Excellent maps for scouting hunting areas
Great map tool! Use it every year for hunting. Great for tracing and marking areas...
Would recommend if possible to add crown land area definitions/boundaries. Would be very useful to stay off private land!

Reliable tool
Our search and rescue group has used this for recording tracks during searches for over 3 years. We have 2 primary needs. Bullet proof reliability. (We have never encountered a loss of data incident.) Simple to use. This app excels for us in meeting both these needs.

Amazing better than our bought GPS
This phone app stepped into the breach where our new GPS was impossible to get gpx files loaded.
The features are exactly what we needed on the trail, and really helped us bushwhack with confidence.
Not sure I will use a separate gps much after this - except a smart phone will use battery up quicker than gps.
Oh and it works great on Airplane mode. So it gives you every chance to save battery

Never miss a trail!
For how awesome this app is, I can’t believe it’s free. Hiked a less-travelled trail the other day and ran into 2 people who turned around before reaching the summit because they couldn’t find it (thick trees/brush and varied terrain so could understand). So glad I had this app to guide me past the pinch point the others got lost at, it was a summit you wouldn’t want to miss! Have also used for backcountry skiing - total lifesaver, great for finding the best & safest routes and terrain.

Never Enter the Backcountry Without It
In a market dominated by apps developed by teams that run $50+ and standalone GPS devices that run $200+, you’re not going to find a better option than this free app. David Crawshay struck the perfect balance of simplicity and functionality. I’ve used it as my primary navigational tool for nearly a thousand kilometres of hiking and ski touring in the Canadian Rockies and haven’t once ran into an issue or been let down by glitches, battery drain, or lag. Truly brilliant.

Great App

Maps to go
I just came back from a walk around Mt Douglas, near Victoria BC. Wow, this software followed along showing me where I was on the trails and Mt Doug has many trails. The main ones are posted with signs but the rest are based on local knowledge. This showed me how all interconnected. The only shortcoming I can see is there was no way to lay down a breadcrumb trail. That could handy. Other than that I liked using this software.

Fantastic hiking companion
I've tried a few apps like this but I think Canada Topo is the best. It shows so many local trails including unofficial ones. It allows me to navigate areas with many trails confidently.

Amazing, Life saving in backcountry
Unreal app, no service needed and can be on airplane mode. Never get lost in the backcountry again. Flag spots, record trails, see elevation changes, distances. My number 1 app. Helps me navigate the mountains on sled and Snowbike.
Wish I could save my trails/flags to external hard drive to back them up though. Or share them to other riders.

Excellent, simple, clean
Excellent simple topo maps with really good basic GPS functionality. For a free app that allows for offline use, it is really useful. Accuracy is great. Using this with a touchscreen is so much nicer than my Garmin, purely on a interface level.
