Need to have an account to use favourites.

You used to be able to use favourites without having an account. I had many iPhones over the years, but my favourites always came with me through iCloud. Now, I need to have an account to use favourites. Everyone wants you to have an account so they can scrape your info. You already have enough info about me from the app’s permissions, but you are still greedy for more. Major downgrade, plus, now all my old favourites are gone…

Very Poor App Management!

With the Mar 2025 app “improvements” the update failed to preserve my account settings. All my favourites were blown away; the list is empty. I’ve now lost track of all the podcasts, programs, etc that I’ve been listening to and set alarms for. Rating reduced from 5 to 3

issue when moving from wifi to cellular

I love this app and I use it daily but for the last couple of years, there’s been an issue when moving from Wi-Fi to cellular. It happens every time I leave my house and move away from the Wi-Fi. The signal is lost and the app will switch to on cellular. Yes all of my cellular settings in iOS are correct and every other streaming app like BBC world service does not suffer this issue. Even if I turn the Wi-Fi off before I walk out the door, the app player will spin for 3 to 5 minutes before playing. If I quit and restart the app, it appears to still be trying to connect to the Wi-Fi and ignoring the cellular signal.

The issue never occurs in the opposite direction. As soon as I arrive to my office or home, it switches to the Wi-Fi signal. If I leave the Wi-Fi signal, the issue occurs again.

Player is the most recent version, my iPhone is completely up-to-date. This is absolutely a bug in the app.

Great app, but disappointed with recent change

I use this app daily and it’s great for getting my news updates and listening to ad-free music. I don’t like the recent change that removed the ability to save favourites unless you sign in. Minor disappointment though… just takes a bit longer now to have to manually search every time I use the app.

I especially like Tom Power’s Deep Roots but there is no direct clear way to access it. I got it onto my list of favourites but cannot always find my list. This is ridiculous. Maybe I don’t understand your system. I would like to.

Do not use if you require that you hear all of a program for your enjoyment or if having content cut off and not load again that day irritates you.

Fix please

Are usually enjoy this app mainly for listening to the latest hourly news. now it’s not updating it so I can only listen to the news from October 15. This happened a few years back, too, and this was eventually fixed. For the moment, deleting and re-downloading the app has not fixed the problem.

Excellent app

This app allows you to listen to CBC radio and music from wherever you are, whenever you want and you can choose which province to listen to. There’s even podcasts for all the shows. I do have a few ideas for the app. What’s coming up next for both radio and music, put it just under what’s on currently. Also increase the size of all font and bold the titles so they’re easier to see. I use this app frequently. It’s a real gem.

I find the CBC App gives me flexibility

If a show is coming up in my local area, but I have something else planned, I tune into CBC live in Newfoundland or New Brunswick or maybe Winnipeg or Barrie. If I just missed something, I can usually find it on Kamloops or Vancouver live. I prefer live over podcasts because I don’t appreciate the ads on the podcast version. I resent it that Harper cutbacks and a possible win by Poillievre has forced the CBC to find money wherever they can. Whenever I’m forced to listen to ads, I curse the Conservatives.

Thanks to all the folks at CBC for everything you do on both CBC Music and CBC1. I’m not a fan of the pop music channels who do not reflect our Cdn lives within most of the music they play. I wish CRTC would do more to help our own artists to survive in this increasingly rigorous and competitive landscape. CBC is there to keep our songs alive, and our languages our hearts and our ideas shared to one another. Annoying ads

The world this hour used to be my go to way to get a quick news fix. Recently it started beginning with an ad for another CBC radio show that can’t be skipped, isn’t clearly identified as such, and lasts so long that I lose patience and shut it off before ever getting to the news. I’m not going to listen to the advertised show. I’m going to stop using the app. The whole point of that feature is to get a quick recap of the news. It was useful. Now it’s unusable.

CBC Ap Should Be Ad Free

It was my understanding CBC agreed not to have Ads on publicly funded CBC Radio given the role CBC has as Canada’s national broadcaster. The CRTC had a key oversight role in this decision. Today I tuned into the hourly news on the CBC iPhone Ap and had to endure an Ad before getting to the news stream. Many years ago, CBC decided Ads were deemed necessary in order to support the then world of CBC TV news. Fine. I stopped watching CBC TV news about that same time. Please keep the radio / streaming audio side of CBC Ad free ... otherwise I won’t be using this Ap.

Playlogs missing from updated app

The updated app is mostly fairly good, but this is marred by a glaring and disappointing omission from the previous version – playlogs are missing for most shows. These used to be right in the app but now they aren’t. Either the internal staff or the external company who developed the update seem to be unable to resolve the issue. And the lack of a “developer response” to this review shows an unfortunate lack of accountability.

I don’t think the hosts know playlists are gone either because they keep mentioning during their shows the ease of viewing playlogs… which are now unavailable.

No Touchee

This is for the developers. This app is the ONLY app out of the 60+ that I use that doesn’t know its being screen touched. Play, Pause and Stop are particularly non-responsive and finicky. Increase the size of the target area please. Otherwise lots of good programming.

I love listening to the CBC but the app consistently stops playback with no warning. Sometimes 2 or three times during an hour. There doesn’t seem to be any reason why.

Apple CarPlay Support is Finally Here!

I mostly listen to CBC One in the car, so it’s terrific that CarPlay support is finally available (thank you!). It’s quirky that using CarPlay you can only listen to things you’ve previously favourited in the iOS app, but otherwise it works well.

Ads Relevant To You prompt needs fixing

The CBC Listen app, intended for iPhone/iPad, works wonderfully on M-based silicon Macs.

One thing that can definitely be improved is to remove the prompt that appears every time on startup to change the setting for 'Allow Tracking'. This is a nag that can't be remedied on this platform, even if 'Location Services' is toggled on in 'Settings'.

Paolo Pietropaulo is wonderful, but why is Tom Allen’ About Time not available? You have them listed (if I can spare the time finding your lists), but all with “0 Episodes”. Operas and stories are grand, and i congratulate you for hiring Ben Heppner, though not a big opera fan so listen less often; but l want The Real Tom also in this mix! Crashes...Hello? It's a R-A-D-I-O app

Update looks nice And it's good WHEN it works. I listen to CBC 1, simply audio stream. Works for 5 mins then...move from one cell tower to the next? Nothing. You have to restart the app. Come on CBC. If I was sitting at home I'd turn on the radio.

Love the CBC, app is missing some key features

Love listening to my favourite shows via this app, but it is missing some key features that would make it more user friendly and my go to app for listening (I mostly use Overcast):

1. A way to organize Bookmarked shows! I use this as a playlist feature, but all you can do is add shows to the top and delete them. You can’t move them around.

2. User selected “Seek Back” and “Seek Forward”. Overcast and Apple Podcasts let user choose how many seconds the back/forward arrows take (e.g. 15 sec, 30 sec, 1 min). The Listen app sets them at 30 sec. It used to be 15. Neither is good for all users.

3. Integration with Apple CarPlay. Not my top priority, as I mostly listen to the radio on long road trips, but if it was possible to easily switch to CBC Listen (which it isn’t right now), maybe I would!

Consistently buggy/performance issues

I use this app daily and it usually stalls/freezes at least once a day. Closing and restarting often works but not always.

Developers, may want to dig into the timeout and connectivity configuration as the app is consistently dropping the connection.

Wrong news bulletins

The CBC should begin each news bulletin by stating the date and time like the BBC does. Often, especially the World this Weekend, the program supposed to be for latest the day is in fact last week’s or yesterday’s. CBC, please do better.

The worst thing about this app is not having access to the playlists. All I get is “CBC playlists are only available in Canada”. I’ve lived in Canada for 31 years, I’ve troubleshooted this problem with the app suggestions and nothing changes. I am so disappointed in this app, and I will no longer be supporting CBC until they start to respect those of us who have supported them for years. Shameful.

The old app was so much better

I’m deleting this app. I can’t stand it anymore. The old interface was so much better. I don’t know why they buried access to World Report - should be one click like NPR’s Hourly update. I hate how I can’t build any playlists without having location services enabled. And I especially hate how there is no built in links for Spotify. The default Apple podcasts app is a train wreck, so I guess birds of a feather must flock together ... ugh. So disappointed.

Lifeline destroyed

I live in a rural area and have very little choice with connecting to the digital world . CBC was my exception . I Went to my CBC station tonight for a quiet time and to my surprise , I was unable to locate the station. Why change something when it wasn’t “broke”? And reading some reviews I am not alone. I am so disappointed in the defensive responses of CBC to these reviews , and wondered if a human even saw the ratings and reviews? Seems as though the replies are robotic and machine driven. I cannot even check a one star rating. Please do not attempt to repair the new app, please return to the old one.

The only thing worse than incompetence is lying. You say over and over again to every negative comment that you are “Sorry” clearly you spend too much time listening to Trudeau and his unending list of “Sorries.” Well sorry doesn’t cut it. Unusable garbage

Requires region to be set in order to access music streams, but you can’t set the region because it doesn’t populate in app list under settings. Literally went from one of the best and most user friendly apps to an usable trash heap. This app is very poor. It will start to play then if I switch to another playlist it stops playing and never starts again. It hangs up in the loading mode. Please fix this app. This also occurs when listen live. Why do you change things without testing them first.

Don’t use this app if you like music

Can’t see songs inside playlists but they give you garbage descriptions that tell you absolutely nothing about what you’re about to listen to. They just vaguely describe the genre or feeling of the music. I couldn’t find any artists I like either. Metric, Shawn Mandes and Carly Rae Jepsen don’t have their own playlists, you can’t use their names to find playlists with their songs or you can’t sift through playlists to find them because they only give you 6 skips. I went to top pop, skipped all 6 songs and went back to my usual music app of choice. Just use YouTube, Spotify or even SoundCloud. Way better apps weather you’re paying for premium or not.

Drops streams

Old apps worked. This combined app provides no content or navigation advantages and is at best flakey. It drops playlist streams when the tune changes more times than not.

Reduced my CBC listening by 95%

This is the worst app on my phone. It is glitchy and constantly stops streaming until I quit and relaunch. The menus are clunky, hard to navigate and every time you get it set up the way you want it, they do an update and it wipes everything out.

I used to stream CBC all day every day. Now I listen for maybe an hour at most... assuming the app doesn’t stop working before I reach my annoyance threshold and shut the piece of junk down for the day. Whoever approved this garbage this should be fired.

This app sucks

I used the previous version for years to listen to podcasts of a variety of shows, now they’re difficult to find or unable to find. This is one of the worst apps I’ve had the misfortune to get.

This app is GARBAGE !! I downloaded it 7 x !

Restarted the phone (iPhone XR with the latest updates) the app does NOT work !!!!

Tap tap and it’s gone

What the heck is this useless and poorly structured app.

Somehow my CBC radio app was replaced with this. I tried to figure it out but didn’t waste much time. Tap tap and it’s gone.

Lot’s of better radio apps. Don’t bother with this thing.

It seems that CBC is determined to get rid of their supporters.

My CBC app is gone, don’t contact me again.

I believe CBC is intentionally trying to get rid of followers and will do so until they are totally irrelevant.

Disappointed

I had the old app and could listen to everything and anything at my leisure. I am a CBC junkie and this new app is terrible. Don’t waste your time subscribing.

This is not a good thing

I am beyond disappointed with this new app. I just put Q in the search function and nothing showed up, spent the last 15 minutes trying to find Q- oddly not listed in favourites. Still no success. I’d like to make a favourites list but that is even harder to figure out. I’m giving it one star because technically it’s a CBC app, and I love The CBC, it is usually the highlight of my day. Not now. This new app has destroyed the convenience of listening to it. I’ve lost all my saved shows. (That I have used in my High School English classes to provide excellent Canadian content) Why bother searching and saving again when the CBC will just randomly decide to take them away- no reason, no notice, no consideration of the people across this country who devotedly listen to the programs that are produced everyday. I hope someone out there is listening and willing to make changes that will bring us back to this once superior mode of entertainment and information.

Depressed

This is my first ever review of an app. The changes made to my beloved CBC app were so appalling that I have stopped using the app, and not for lack of trying, rather the lack of time it takes to navigate through the totally strange and counterintuitive interface with its weird huge pink pictures of show presenters. The focus on content is gone. The design is diabolical and I’ve effectively been cut off. I work, I can’t listen to the radio when I teach and I really relied on the app for my content on demand.
