Description
NewsTap Lite is a Usenet Newsreader for the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch.
"NewsTap Lite" is the free version of the "NewsTap" App. "NewsTap Lite" is a fully functional Usenet Newsreader, but it does not support all features of the "NewsTap" App. The Lite version only supports one server and can only subscribe to two group.
Features of NewsTap Lite:
- Optimized for offline usage. Download and send out articles in one go and then you can read and write articles completely offline.
- Supports binary groups with photos and other files.
- Supports filters to mark articles as read or mark them with a certain color.
- Hyperlinks are automatically detected and can be opened in a web browser.
- Optimized article layout for the small iPhone display. The original article layout is also available.
- A „tree view“ of a whole discussion makes is super easy to follow even large discussions.
- Highly customizable.
- Post new articles or send follow-ups.
- Build-in help.

Please check out the full version if you want to read more than 2 groups, need newsrc syncing and if you do not want to see iAds.
What's New in Version 5.5
Because of a bug in iOS 14 very large and deep threads could not be read properly anymore. So articles of the groups could not be accessed. The new release will include a workaround for this iOS 14 issue, so articles do no longer get lost. There was no such problem under iOS 13 or older.

Latest Version is broken
I used NewsTap for several years and found it a solid nntp news client. Then a major update came out, and since then it has not worked at all for me.It would connect to servers, download group lists, and subscribe to groups, but it would never download any news.
I deleted and reinstalled the latest version (updated within the past week) and now it won’t even download the group list. Just sits and spins trying to connect to the server, and finally gives up. I’ve tried multiple servers and ports that work fine with my Mac news client.

It doesn't support yEnc
I dunno why make a reader that doesn't support yenc especially when 90% of the binary files are yenc encoded. It's like making a web browser that doesn't read jpeg. for a half-done reader.

Promising early days
Looks good so far. Easy to configure and to subscribe to groups. I only read text groups so I can't speak to binary support. Threading seems a bit clunky but it may be my learning curve.

Unimpressed
Doesn't support yenc (silly not to now a days concidering yencs been around for a long time).
Also the app will eat up your space on your touch/iPhone as it downloads articals why not just the headers with an option to download the body?!) arbitrarily without any sort of useful filters to combat spam posters.
Poor attempt at a usenet client.
