With the help of SoundFonts (.sf2) you have the possibility to extend Better Ears with your own sounds.
KEYBOARD AND FRETBOARD
»Better Ears« comes with a virtual keyboard and virtual guitar fretboard. You can key notes on either.
ANSWER WITH YOUR VOCALS OR WITH A REAL INSTRUMENT
The integrated pitch detection allows you to answer the questions with your voice or a real instrument (e.g. piano or guitar). Simply play the individual tones on your instrument or sing them when the microphone button lights red.
FOUR PRESET LEVELS
»Better Ears« ships with four preset levels:
• Beginner
• Easy
• Normal
• Professional
UNLIMITED CUSTOM LEVELS
Additionally you can create your own levels, letting you train to your own specific needs. Put yourself in "Training Camp" to learn church modes, or concentrate on those two pesky intervals that constantly cause you problems.
SYNC ALL OF YOUR DEVICES
With »Better Ears« you can keep your Mac and your iOS devices in sync. You can choose what to sync: Your own levels, your statistics, your settings or all of this.
MIDI SUPPORT
»Better Ears« supports routing sound through an external MIDI device, allowing you to use your existing MIDI master keyboard or sound module. You can even control »Better Ears« using a connected keyboard.
STATISTICS
For every exercise »Better Ears« knows all your current stats, including how often you have answered each question correctly or incorrectly.
WIKIPEDIA INTEGRATION
»Better Ears« shows the relevant Wikipedia article for the current exercise. If a relevant article is not available online, another topically-appropriate article will be shown instead.

Buggy...
Great but lots of lags and bugs. The sound goes in "Popcorn Mode" while playing 4 sounds chords..

Angry!
Excellent app - expensive but worth it. However asking me to pay an additional 9.99 for the iPad version is robbery. I used to have nothing but good to say about this app.
I will never recommend this app or the developers again. If I could get my money back and return this app I would.

Great app, but too pricey
I bought this app a year ago, not long after the 2.0 iPhone software update was released. I paid $14.99, because I am a university music student, and I noticed later the price had gone down half price, which I thought was more reasonable. I really enjoy the app, primarily for intervals, but I'm only giving 4 stars because of the price. Please make the price more affordable so others can afford this app. It would also be nice if there were more updates to this app, especially since it costs $14.99

Pretty nice but...
I'm studying classical music at University and I figured this app would be a nice way to train. Thing is the app is pretty cool, but how can there not be rhythm dictation and chords inversion for an app of that price. I was hoping for a complete ear training program, I'm a bit disapointed....

Great, almost perfect.
Still great for music and ear training. Has helped me a ton. New update added ascending/decending and more intervals. Please add some sort of consecutive interval/melody practice, then this app would be perfect.

Great app needs work
When i first got this app i found it overwealming that suddenly i was already into traning without any titorial at all plaese add a main screen and tutorial, more instruments too PLEASE ADD ELECTRIC GUITAR!

Useful but can get improved
I'm a music teacher and I use it almost everyday when I have free time. This is by far the best application I found but it could be better in the futur. The problem is you can't correct your errors. It could be useful to have the option to hear a wrong answer with the correct one before going to the next question. This is how the learning process works! It could also be interesting to have the possibilites to chose between chord inversions in the chords setup menu. Finaly, I think the possibility to add new stuff in the exercises would be great for the users. For example, if I want to add the thirteens in the intervals exercises it could be awesome to have the option to do it. Same thing with chords.

Not really worth the 14.99 I paid for this app. Needs much much more to be worth the money put in. Please update with more features in the future.

No melody practice?
Why do most ear training software not include melody practice. At least one bar of ear training, please!. It's weird! Is it because people will become too good at listining too fast?
I mean, pitch in music only really matters in two realms: harmony and melody.
I for the life of me can't figure out why many ear trainers have harmony, but don't have the other most fundamental part of music listening (other than rhythm) as a part of practice and memory -- melody, melody, melody!!
2 or three bar melodies! Is this not also part of music training? Could you please include this in an update?

A great Application for any musician
As a professional musician, I find Karajan to be a useful tool. A well thought out program, but with the price tag, I would have expect more - A tuner and metromone would fit in nicely.

Awesome Practice
I am a jazz degree student, and this app is great for keeping my ear training and theory skills sharp over the summer. Eagerly awaiting more features, more scales, and chords. Great potential
