Fluffy Chat is a great open-source matrix third party app

The would definetly be the application I would reccomend to my friends switching to the decentralized matrix protocol. Fluffy Chat has a pretty UI that makes chatting with others really enjoyable! The search function is really powerful, the app neatly categorizes messages, groups, unread, and spaces into seprate sections to help you keep track of your conversations.
The multi-account support is such a killer feature for me personally.
Though I wish the app didn't crash on me everytime I would rotate my phone and I wasn’t able to join the development’s group chat as it says I do not have the permission to do that.

Still works, even better now!

Updated review end of 2024, working better than ever now! Just as good as the other matrix clients. And one of the best parts: supports older devices and iOS 12, please keep that going!
About colons in the username field: it seems to use Apple’s “email entry” keyboard which for some reason doesn’t have a colon. Solution is to copy a colon (from the password field made visible works) and paste it into the username, simple as.

Broke

Spectacularly broken now. Used an email address field for username and now we can’t use colons. Can’t use a username because it complains about home server. I took a break from this app for a solid year and now it’s non functional. Nice.

Organizational Nightmare

This client had/has so much promise. It really does. It's fast, and mentions are supported for auto fill when using the at symbol (@) as a tag.
However, the designers have twice said that they do not want to implement a nav or tab bar to separate chats by type. As someone who is all-in to Matrix using multiple servers an across many rooms/DMs/multiple spaces, this simply does not scale. Even Telegram lets you put chats in folders now.
Reducing the number of DMs I have is also not an option as setting them to low priority in Element/Matrix doesn't hide them from the room list in Fluffychat.
If you're in maybe 3-5 rooms, go ahead, use this. For anyone else, go back to Element like I did, and save yourself the headache.
Update: There's a tab bar for spaces, but this still does nothing to address my usability concerns.
