Description

Always know your glucose number and where it’s heading with the Dexcom G6® Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System – Approved for diabetes treatment decisions with zero fingersticks and no calibration.*
*If your glucose alerts and readings from the G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.
Only use this app if you have the Dexcom G6 CGM System.
With Dexcom G6, always know your glucose number with just a quick glance at your compatible smartphone or smartwatch. For a list of compatible devices visit www.dexcom.com/compatibility. Dexcom G6 provides real-time glucose readings for patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes every five minutes. Dexcom G6 is approved for children age 2 and older.
The Dexcom G6 System provides personalized trend alerts right on your smart device and lets you see when your glucose levels are going too low, or too high, so you can better manage your diabetes. The Alert Schedule feature lets you schedule and customize a second set of alerts. For example, you can set the schedule to match your work hours and have different alert settings during the rest of the day. Custom alert sounds are available, including a Vibrate-Only option on the phone for glucose alerts other than the Urgent Low Alarm.
The Always Sound setting allows you to receive certain Dexcom CGM Alerts even if your phone sound is off, set to vibrate, or in Do Not Disturb mode. This will allow you to silence calls or texts but still receive audible CGM Alerts, including Low and High Glucose alert, Urgent Low Soon Alert, Urgent Low Alarm, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts. Please note that when your phone is set to Silent or Do Not Disturb, you will not receive any audible alerts for Signal Loss. Always Sound is on by default. A Home screen icon shows you if your Alerts will sound or not. For safety, three alerts cannot be silenced: Urgent Low Alarm, Transmitter Failure, and Sensor Failure.
In addition to the accurate performance provided by the Dexcom Sensor, you’ll receive other valuable features:
•Share your glucose data with up to five followers in real time. Followers can monitor your glucose data and trends in real time on their compatible smart device with the Dexcom Follow app. Share and Follow functions require an internet connection.
•Health app access so you can share retrospective glucose data with third party apps
•Today View widget, which allows you to view your glucose data on the lock screen of your smart device
Apple Watch
View your glucose information, trend graph, and alerts and alarms right from your wrist with the Dexcom G6 Apple Watch app. Watches require compatible smart device to use app.
•Use the digital crown to scroll through 1, 3, or 6 hours of glucose trend data
•Dexcom G6 watch face complications allow you to view your glucose number and arrow from your watch face
•Add the Dexcom G6 app to the Dock and enable background refresh for best performance

I think the Dexcom G6 with my tandem pump is an amazing mix, however the app is horrible. Every time I get an alert for my blood sugars, my phone completely stops working for like a good minute. Now this is completely unacceptable considering I’m going to have to do online school. Please do something about this, its been an issue for over a year now. Do something.

I use dexcom because it is one of the best CGMs on the market however this app has to be one of the worst designed things I have ever used. Not only that but these people have the AUDACITY to make the bogus claim that their new censor does not require calibration which is not only a lie but could actually be dangerous.
When something better does come out I will be switching without a second thought.

The app itself works good I get the good readings and it’s fairly constant with the connection I do occasionally lose connection but generally speaking it has connection again within 10 to 15 minutes. What would be really nice is to have the watchOS to be the main screen and the iPhone to be the duplicate screen instead of the other way around, I go everywhere with my watch I am never without it but because I have cellular on my watch I often leave my phone at home which causes me to no longer be able to receive blood sugar information.

With the Dexcom G6 app, I often get signal loss and app stopped working alerts if my phone battery dies, I am too far away or without Wifi.
My login page completely freezes every time I enter my username, password and click Login. When this happens, I always have to delete the app and reinstall it.
I find having to calibrate the app twice to get an accurate reading is really annoying.
The set up instructions say “no more finger stick calibrations”. BIG FAT LIE!!
Sometimes I even get alerted for low blood sugars when I know for sure that I am not low. This is really frustrating.

I’ve been wearing the Dexcom G6 for 10 days now and the app works great. No real connection issues. I have an iPhone 8 paired with my Apple Watch 4 and the updates on both devices and communication between them are seamless, without problems. The alerts come up on both devices when going low or high. This app has made diabetes management a game changer after 38 years of being T1.

The App is great when it’s working. However it disconnects often, and takes multiple tries to reconnect. A lot of times I have to restart my phone to reconnect. This happens most often during the night when I need the alerts most to tell me when I’m having a high/low.

I was over the moon excited that I could finally afford a Dexcom 6g. After using it for about 1.5 weeks I’m severely disappointed with the fact that the Bluetooth disconnects constantly, it’s takes longer to reconnect (much longer) than to actually do my blood sugar with my glucometer, and it is a false sense of security for those who thought it would “alert” you with lows at night, because the Bluetooth has disconnected every night for me and thus does not alert. VERY UNSAFE. If I could could give this zero stars, I would. Not at all worth the money spent.

Version 1.5.6
I’ve been on the g6 for 3 months and I have had so many problems with sensors and the app closing and ruining the sensor. I have had more sensors break on me in three months than have worked. I don’t know if this is the app or the sensors or the transmitter and no one can seem to tell me and just keep sending new sensors. My Apple Watch does not show my blood sugar more than half the time. Sometimes my phone goes off and sometimes my watch. Doesn’t make any sense.
Wish this worked because when it works I love it.

Like other reviews, I am glad Dexcom is producing a CGM and works great but their software implementation is HORRIBLE. Where are the Apple Watch 5 complications? Why does the CGM on Apple Watch appear blank 50% of the times I look at the watch? Where is dark mode for the phone app? Come on Dexcom, if you can’t live up to your promise of having Apple Watch connected directly to transmitter (promised over 2 years ago) then at least save face with updates to your app. Very unimpressed.

Version 1.5.6
Don’t get me wrong, the Dexcom G6 is a life changer device. The application could do so much more however. In Canada, the Watch complications is still not supported except for the modular and this almost 2 years after the release of the watch 4. I would also like to see dark mode. If there is one app that should support dark mode, this is this one. A blank screen at 3am is very unpleasant. Finally, the events management could do so much more... I’d like to see the events on the graph and to have my events reported in Apple Health. For those who like me like the G6 but are disappointed by the app, look at Sugarmate.

I had difficulty making an account and logging in. After the account was set up and I went through the steps the sensor took 3 1/2 hours to start up. It worked for about 6 hours and when I woke up this morning the sensor had disconnected itself. It never left the recommended 6 meter radius and it is a brand new sensor as of yesterday. When trying to call support they did not answer and asked me to leave a message. However from today until Monday I have a useless sensor stuck in my body. I would not recommend Dexcom g6. On top of that it is hard to invite people to see your trends and the email that is sent asks the person to buy products frequently. It’s very pushy.

Need Faster IOS Updated and Event Recording

Version 1.5.4
Hi. Most likely the app but it takes way too long for Dexcom to update their app to be compatible with latest Apple iOS updates which is super frustrating when other apps start to not work because iOS has not been updated!! For that reason, I am reducing from 4 stars to 3 stars but really feel it is more like 2.5 stars. Would also like event recording to be easier to edit. Right now you can only delete events entirely and re-enter. Should be able to adjust time or amounts without having to re-enter from scratch. Also, scrolling through times is a bit much. Would prefer to just enter numbers manually. I have to say that the Free Libre app was much better for event recording and editing. I also liked that the daily patterns were all available through one app versus Dexcom using 2 apps.

Love the ability to monitor son’s glucose level when he is out. Share his data with Endocrine clinic is awesome. But if you have a new phone or it auto updates to IOS 13 you are SOL vis a vis support. Notwithstanding the “works on this phone” note iOS 13 is not supported. Needs update to always run instead of needing to open the app leave it open in the background. Faster app updates are holding this back big time.

Hi,
Amazing product but can you add a custom alert to know when the blood sugar level goes under a custom value (ex: under 7.0 mmol/l) above the hypoglycaemia range.
Very useful for diabetic insulin dosing training.
Sometimes you also want to know when you are doing intense sport and don’t have time to check the app.
Probably easy to implement since you already have a couple of alerts-notifications in the software.
Thanks
Seb

App lacks functionality and is not supported under current iOS

Version 1.5.4
Pros:
The DEXCOM G6 has helped me,
- significantly lower my A1C
- better understand how different foods impact my glucose levels
- better understand and adjust the amount of insulin to inject
- significantly reduced the need to take glucose samples by pricking my fingers
The DEXCOM G6 provides active monitoring and alerts when glucose levels go outside of my target range. This has been especially helpful in managing hypoglycemic episodes that happened more frequently as I adjusted my diet and insulin intake.
Cons:
DEXCOM does not keep their application current and up to date with current and supported iOS levels. I have had to turn off automatic updates on both the apps and iOS. This has caused compatibility issues with other apps that needed newer iOS versions in order to provide wanted functionality.
The DEXCOM application lacks functionality and the ability to log details about events such as carbohydrates consumed and types of exercise. Ideally they would provide or integrate with applications that assist in counting carbs and exercise tracking. These are important tools in helping manage ones diabetes and I’ve not found a single tool that adequately integrates with the DEXCOM G6 app or Clarity. Fortunately for DEXCOM, the competition is in the same situation, but I will switch to any competitive app and CGM system whenever they get something that ties it all together.
The DEXCOM G6 is too expensive and is not covered by most insurance companies. My insurance partially covers the cost, but has a large co-pay and an annual limit on diabetic supplies, effectively providing cost reimbursement for 3 out of 12 months. While the DEXCOM G6 has been very helpful in treating my diabetes it is the most expensive tool available and my doctors are reluctant to recommend it to their patients.

Almost useless app

Version 1.5.4
Hugely disappointing app. Why do I have to enter an event in two different windows. Usually when I eat, I bolus. Simple fact of the life of someone with diabetes. Obviously sometimes I make corrections by taking carbs or insulin, but generally they go hand in hand. So many sophisticated diabetes apps out there. I am very sad that I need to rely on this piece of crap app to have a discussion with my endo.
Also, considering the amount of data that can be obtained from the CGM in conjunction with all of my other settings this app offers little benefit to users. If you can avoid it, do.

The alerts malfunction 1/3 of the time. They either make incorrect alert sound or not at all. Also won’t silence 1/4 of the time. Tech support can’t help - any suggestion they provide is a guess and doesn’t fix it. They keep saying “must be an issue with iPhone version”... Stick with the g4 or g5 that was safer!!!

I love having a Dexcom to track my sugars. Love the no finger pokes or calibrations, however I find the app more of a hassle to use than the G5 app.
I miss the box around the dot that let me know when I added an event. It was nice to see at a glance when I ate and how long it took food or insulin to kick in. Or the effects of exercise.
I don't like that I have to add events one at a time, (carbs then insulin then exercise) wait for the app to acknowledge it inbetween, then go back to the home screen to see my sugar values/the graph. (I'm already using a different app because I can't add comments to the carbs so I can track what I've eaten...)
I'm using an insulin pump and I was surprised that the G6 app only lets you add insulin amounts to one decimal place. The G5 app allowed two, which matched my pump for more accurate tracking.
I can't really remember what the graph for the G5 looked like but somehow the graph looks smaller in the G6 app. Or my current value is smaller..... Not sure what it is but I feel like my current sugar value isn't the main focus anymore.
I like the new alert that says low in 20 min when it notices I'm on a steady drop.
All in all the app has technically performed well for me so far. Only had it a week. I just don't find it as user friendly as the G5. (Except for the alarms. It was easy to see what the alarms are and to turn them on/off as desired). Given enough time though, I'm sure I'll adjust.
No app is perfect, and having diabetes will always be a hassle. I'm thrilled to have a CGM and the ease of monitoring it with my phone. So despite the inconveniences of the app, I'm very thankful to Dexcom for all they do. I would hate to go back to management without a CGM!

Version 1.5.4
Overall very happy with this app. However, there’s a few things that should be fixed:
1) alarm settings: if the interval is set at anything other than 5 minutes, then the alarm shouldn’t repeat every time a new reading is received
2) when viewing the reading history (screen turned sideways) the event and insulin log (if empty) shouldn’t take up so much of the screen
3) there should be a place to track and influence a1c results
Nothing earth shattering noted above, but these fixes would make the app way better from my perspective.

Continuous glucose monitoring without finger pricks, means my 26 years of sore and calloused fingers has finally come to an end. Plus, the G6 is so far the most accurate out of all the Dexcom products I’ve used.
If you’re on G4 or G5 and can afford to switch, don’t hesitate. The G6 system is expensive, for sure, but it has immeasurably changed my life for the better.

For the price should be better

Version 1.5.4
App loses connection after last update. Sometimes for hours. It should not happen-EVER.
There should be time showing of the last reading.
Also life of transmitter should be displayed.
And dexcom if you read it-put small transmitter on sensor and change every 10 days. Than it will transmit all the time, not every 5min to save battery. 5 min is long time in hypo... Libre can do it so I believe in you.
Make app access to more than 24 h data for comparison, without need to go to another app (clarity) to get report.
Than we can put insulin/bolus/h1C in the app and keep record of it.
The app is doing just glucose reading but it ahould help also manage diabetes.

I was introduced to the Dexcom G6 by my endocrinologist and decided to give it a try. My iOS 13 update has connectivity problems with the dexcom, when I needed to check my blood sugar I had to wait for 10 minutes until it connected to my phone. When I spoke to tech support, they told me that the new iOS 13 update wasn’t compatible with the app but they were working to get it fixed. How are you not up to date with all the new iOS updates?? I’ve gone back to my freestyle libre as it’s never given me any issues. I’d wait until they release a fix to go back and try this.

While the added options (compared to the G5 app) are great, there still needs to be some further enhancements.
While I like the alerts, my iWatch vibrating is enough; I especially don’t need the app to blast absurdly loud alerts unless I’m sleeping and need waking up.
Add a volume slider to each alert, this is getting so ridiculous I’ve had to disable a few alerts that were too bothersome.
