The audiobooks are all over the place. Anne of Green Gables is not an historical account but is fiction. The White Coat Black Art podcast is in the science category but it’s a medical podcast which should put it under the Health and Wellness. How does one browse for new podcasts, audiobooks to listen too if they are all in the wrong categories?!?!?

Then you have The Bugle podcast but it hasn’t been updated in a decade. Meanwhile you do have The Bugle Presents. Both are ongoing right now and the latter only started in 2020. Who cares what the app is like to use or what things sound like if you can’t get the content that you want in the first place.

I’ve been listening to podcasts for many years and have tried most podcasts apps. Stitcher for many years and then RSS reader and last Himalaya. This is by far the best ... all the others I’ve tried alive had to compromise on some feature.

Castbox has everything I like and well implemented and easy to use. And tags! I’ve been looking for a reasonable way to organize 100+ podcasts and tags are the answer. What a great feature. I like the app so much I’m pleased to be a premium subscriber but even the free version is absolutely fantastic.

2 issues:

1. I spend more time trying to figure out how to turn off automatic downloads than I do actually listening to podcasts. It’s hidden behind so many menus and it I don’t feel it should be ticked off by default.

2. The chances of my podcast actually playing when I tap the side of my headphones to resume a paused podcast is probably 20%. Music on Spotify? Works 100% of the time. Simply pressing play on a paused podcast will not play the podcast almost every time for me. I need to press play, pause, then play again for it to start playing. I’ve been doing this for what feels like a year now... how has this not been fixed yet?

- One feature I’d love to see is if you could turn off the small orange dots in the top left of a podcast permanently, but still be subscribed. Sometimes I like to take a break from a podcast for several months at a time, but if I were to unsubscribe from it then I’d forget about the show forever. It just gets annoying tapping off the notifications every week.

Besides this, Castbox is the best podcast app in many ways, but there are a couple little things I’d love Castbox to fix so it could be perfect!

It’s a great podcast app. I’ve been looking for a pocket casts replacement and this is it. My only issue is that there are some bugs when it comes to chromecast integration. Sometimes it won’t show any podcast art on my tv while casting. Aside from that it’s an awesome app!

Super buggy. Common issues:

- Hitting play but nothing happens. Have to hit play several times sometimes to get it to play.

- Syncing for new episodes is weird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

- If you receive the warning for playing over data, you have to hit cancel at least 10 times to dismiss the notification.

Otherwise it’s pretty good. Just some annoying bugs.

I really like Castbox. I am still figuring out about some if its features/settings. It is much better than many others I have tried.I am happily a Premium subscriber.

I have a complaint/request. PLEASE remove the Zen Mode Beta. I cannot even imagine WHY it is on the Library page... or anywhere in the app. Can you explain to users why it is there. It uses very valuable screen space and clutters the screen unnecessarily. I have meditation apps already and would never use Zen Mode when I actually want to listen to podcasts.

I also do not like the scrolling banner on the discovery page but at least I know why it exists.

I’ve tried every podcast app I’m sure and this one is truly the best. I would like to see chromecast support in future. I think that would be a great edition. Also being able to rearrange the order of the library section in the my subscription page. Kind of like how the Apple podcast app allows the user to do. - No easy way to unsubs from a lot of podcasts quickly

- The grand majority of podcasts give me the "moved to a new location" banner. Subbing to the new feed and unsubbing from the old feed remains a somewhat tedious process however

I do really like the app and have switched over from pocketcasts since their redesign. I am having issues with the touch points when trying to delete episodes.

When I try to press the garbage can I have to try several times.

If I download new episodes while I am listening to an episode I cannot see the new episode in the list of available podcasts which means I cannot reorder the list of what is playing next. I find the sorting of downloaded episodes to be confusing. I am surprised that I cannot easily figure out which episodes are playing next and how I can reorder the list.

CarPlay integration is nice, but not well implemented. When I am driving the sorting of downloaded episodes is not great. It’s distracting trying to sort through and find what I want to hear. Pocketcasts was much easier to find downloaded or new episodes while driving

Am I just missing an easy way to have all downloaded episodes appear in a list that I can sort and work my way thru? And newly downloaded episodes appear in the list as soon as they are downloaded so I can change the order on the fly?

So I was getting frustrated with the Podcast app and checked out some other options and Castbox was highly recommended. It was pretty straight forward to get started and simple to get my regular podcast line up downloaded. After one week I’m satisfied...

The reason for 4 out of 5 is simply that their premium service option appears to be a monthly rate (a reasonable rate mind you) but I really would rather just pay a single lifetime fee. Monthly rates just quickly add up after a year or so to the user paying way too much in the end. Maybe talk to a grandparent who “rented” a phone from Bell back in the day 😂

I find it easier to use and more intuitive than other apps, and there doesn’t seem to be a gimmick or catch, just easy to use and download my weekly pods! Check out Ronin Geek Official Podcast on Castbox, it’s the best platform for the content! Easy to jump to time-stamped portions of the podcast, too.

2 ideas:

- can you add a “next episode” thing under the current episode you’re listening to? Like Netflix? With an option to download the next one?

- for the list of downloads, can we sort them as a list of all the episodes downloaded in the order they were released by the respective podcast? Not separated by podcast, just a list of everything. I want to listen to all my oldest episodes first.
