Excellent App

It’s the best integrated scheduling app on the App Store - at least for me. Not sure what others are complaining about, but 30 or so dollars a year to maintain and further develop a well thought out app is a reasonable cost.

Updated my rating to 5 stars after looking at alternatives that integrated google tasks. The fact of the matter is that the developer pays 30% to apple, and must maintain and revise the app to maintain functionality with various services. A yearly fee of 30 dollars , 20 of which goes to the developer is well worth it for the flexibility and functionality the app offers.

Avant d’acheter cette application , j’avais demandé à Informant si toutes mes données accumulées depuis 20 ans sur Pocket Informant seraient automatiquement téléchargées dans Informant 5 ...on m’a répondu OUI.

Quelle déception, après avoir payé $38,00CAN , incluant nos taxes, pour un abonnement annuel, j’ai du passer une journée entière à synchroniser avec Google et iCloud pour enfin réussir à récupérer la majorité de mes données sur mon iPad et iPhone et encore plusieurs catégories d’entrées colorées n’apparaissent pas également sur les 2 appareils,

Qui plus est, la synchronisation par le nuage d’Informant m’a été refusée à plusieurs reprises et j’ai abandonné.

Alors pensez y avant de vous procurer cette application, plus capricieuse et dispendieuse dans les circonstances , car il ne s’agit que d’un calendrier .

Ok organizer

I have used Informant for many, many years and have been very happy with it and it’s extensive feature set. It has been my most-used app on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Previously, I gave it 5 stars.

However, I recently experienced database corruption and was told by support that my database is too big. They also stated that there is no way to fix the database. I need to delete my data and enter everything new. A restore from a backup will not work as the backup is also corrupt. With thousands of events and tasks it is not possible to enter everything again.

I’m frustrated that my most-critical app is so unreliable.

I’m now looking into switching to simpler software that is free, also syncs across devices but more reliable.

good app, but ipad version limits tasks to 4800

I have many tasks and I like to keep my completed tasks on my device. However, if the completed plus non-completed adds up to more than 4800 on the ipad, then new tasks will not by synced from toodledo. The iphone version doesn’t have this limit. Customer support will just tell you to limit your tasks on your one device.

Problems Go Unfixed

Let my subscription go after many years of using (all the way back to Windows Mobile). App development is stagnant despite the subscription supposedly funding continued development. Talking of the subscription, it is massively overpriced. Contacts is really a wrapper for system contacts. Notes for Evernote, there is no way to integrate with tasks. Shame.

Don’t bother

I used to love this app, until it stopped working. It keeps crashing, losing all my data,

fails to restore from a back up and I have the premium version.

$33 for the year doesn’t seem like much, but then you have to pay another $3+ to sync to your computer or another $3 for someone else to access and sync to the calendar.

Don’t waste your money or time on this app. It’s so frustrating and so is the customer service. The best part is, that Apple won’t refund my payment for an app I can’t even use

$33 to “own” is false advertising

You don’t own the software, still need to pay $33 yearly just to reach your data not even host on their site. It’s like paying for an internet browser one time and they charge you after if you use to connect to other web site and retrieving data.

Bad model in my opinion since “Owning” should be a one time price with full features and we should only pay subscription if you want support, patch or release.

Way too complicated.

The average person would need an eight hour course on how to use this program properly. A couple You Tube videos and lots of frustration and I still can’t get it to be user friendly. It is SO complicated. I wish I could get a refund because it was very expensive and I don’t have a week of free time to learn all this. Even the basics seem wAy too advanced for me. Can the developers help me learn this easier.

Otherwise I’d like my money back please.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

I absolutely love this app. It runs my whole life, and the life of my family. Every time I think “I wish I could do this”, I discover that they have already developed a way. For instance, my husband uses the iPhone calendar and shares it with me, but I can hide his calendar when I only want to see my own items. Plus it integrates with Siri and lets me colour code and view a whole month (with words instead of dots!!!). I truly can’t say enough. I have been using it for years and will continue still!

Great calendar except when it freezes

This calendar app is fantastic but often freezes. Can’t view the calendar as it fades out to a white screen. Have to turn the phone off and on to reset. Very inconvenient.

Could be a bit better, but overall not bad

Overall I like the layout, and you can customize a fair amount of appearances which is nice. However, I really wish there was an option for an easy unchecked box that you can click for a check mark when it’s complete, instead of the cross out. I also will the weather forecast appearances could be more customizable, as I find them to get distracting. I also really hat the Tasks Home page, and wish they had a much better and visually appealing way to organize tasks by subject, project, etc. My last wish would be that they had an easy “postpone” button for tasks, instead of having to change the due date each time. I’m also a fan that there’s a widget! That comes in quite handy.

Unresponsive customer service

I have been using different versions of this calendar for over five years. I have been paying annual fee for the premium version but lat week when I updated iOS software the calendar crashed. I emailed customer service to get some help. Their only suggestion was to reinstall the calendar (very smart team). Anyways, when they realized that they were not able to fix the issue, they said that my iPhone was jailbroken, which is not true. I just felt that I needed to share my experience with others. It might protect you from loosing your money.

Losing features I paid for

At one time I paid to have the local temperature as part of the calendar. Then an “upgrade” or two later actually turned into a downgrade as I lost that feature. I won’t be coerced into yearly extortion fees. I gave up on Adobe products for the same reason. Calendars 5 is a fine substitute.

Worth the expense.

Informant has become expensive for an App.

It’s is stunningly comprehensive, consistently works well and has excellent syncing and customer support however, and there is no other calendar app that even comes close to meeting my needs.

With regard to features I can’t imagine anyone needing a feature that’s not here.

I recommend it highly.

I am hoping that Fanatic Software is mindful about escalating the costs in the future, if only so it stays the choice for more users.

DON’T BUY THIS APP!

I’ve been using Pocket Informant for years. This year when renewal came, my Mac stopped talking to my phone app. I’ve tried endlessly to resolve this issue with their ‘support team’. They refuse to communicate by phone and are completely baffled by any minor detail. I get one email a day, usually to tell me that I haven’t followed their instructions, otherwise it would all work. It doesn’t work and I’m now switching to a different calendar. A five minute phone call would have most likely fixed the issue but they do not offer phone support. Goodbye Pocket Informant.

Recent Updates

Like many others I find that the calendar is getting less user friendly the more updates we get. I still love to use this calendar but I find there are more and more redundancies and with no settings options I can’t remove what I don’t need or set it up the way it’s most user friendly for me.

We have paid for the entire package so why can’t we have more control of it?I don’t like the triple list for tasks in daily view that also shows the task list.I have no use for it and would like away to have only one Task list on display. Can’t live without

I love this app! My whole schedule and reminders and in the app. The only way I forget something is when I forget to place it in the calendar. Syncs with all my device no problem. The only thing I don’t like is the time buttons they did with new upgrade. Minor preference gripe but otherwise love.

Great app, wish there was something for long-time users.

I’ve been using PI for a long time (I think 5 years?) and I haven’t found anything comparable. I love the flexibility PI gives, and that I can link in all my family’s GCals as well as customize how they appear! I do wish that the developers gave us a heads up and some kind of discount - I found out when my app wasn’t working that I needed to upgrade, and then had to start paying for a free app. One way to look at it though is how much I would pay for a paper organizer that doesn’t have nearly as many features, so I’m okay with paying for it. I tried the monthly payments to test out the new layout and feature, and have paid for the full app. I haven’t bothered with Informant Sync as I schedule more from my phone.

Rip-off

This app is a rip-off because it upgraded to Informant 5 without transferring purchases made in the previous version.

I paid for the weather add-on, but now if I want it in Informant 5, I have to pay again. Watch for the same poor customer service in the next “upgrade.” Caveat emptor.

poor UX quality

Total cash grab, capitalizing on the former grand Informant app that is not supported anymore.

Hiring a decent UX designer would help - as it is today Dark Mode is unusable - blue-ish text blends with the background in many places and is not discernible ... and there is no way to make it NOT blue, ... where did that idea of blue come from to begin with? total lack of taste.

Essentially, it is no different from an older Informant other than iphone X support and few bells and whistles... and these cut round-wannabe buttons on the bottom is a good instance of lack of design effort on your part. Or any other effort but to grab some dough, for that matter!

Its so weird you're the only one who has a decent implementation of tags, contexts and project folders at the same time! Otherwise i would’ve dumped the app long ago.

Terrible – don’t waste your money!🤢💩

I purchased the full version of Informant some time ago. It was a very useful app. Recent “upgrades“, however, now require a $33 a year subscription to continue to get any use out of the program. When you consider that Microsoft 365 is available for a subscription cost of $109 (Canadian) it seems outrageous that a program with infinitely less usefulness would charge a third of that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I mind paying for an app. In fact I’ve already paid more than once for this very program. However, this is highway robbery. With the dozens of calendar applications available in the App Store are we really to believe that this one is so valuable that it’s the only one to have switched to this kind of subscription model? Is it possible that all of the other apps are able to make a profit charging a one time fee yet PI needs to triple or quadruple that fee and then charge it on a yearly basis? It’s just greed. They will try to tell you that PI is still an “exceptional value“, my last few comments just scratch the surface in elucidating why that’s a lot of garbage.

Really sad with where PI has gone

Used to be my my favourite app ever. Now, with PI 5, I have a buggier, less intuitive app that is now an ongoing expense. I will likely look for a new calendar app in the near future unfortunately. To the Devs: drastically increasing the cost of the app while decreasing the user experience and functionality was a really bad play.

Pocket Informant is not the best-of-breed app that it used to be...

I use to be a zealot, trying to convince my friends to use earlier versions of this app since it was so good (at that time)

Then over the last few years the company tried to make things prettier with more bells and whistles - but increasingly it became unreliable, CORRUPTING my calendar and to-do lists a couple of times a month. (I sync between iPad, iPhone, ToodleDo and Google Calendar). It would move my appointments from one date and time to another, and my to do list that was completed on one device, sometimes showed up as still to be done on Toodledo or my other apple device.

Then I noticed that the weather feature I had paid for had stopped working when Informant 5 came out, and then when I started reading up on this, found out that Informant had REMOVED this feature AND the syncing features with Google etc - and wanted me to PAY ANNUALLY $32.99 to maintain this feature I already paid for on Informant 4.

*I’ve since moved on to using other calendar programs.*

Its such a shame because it USED to be such a reliable, functional, and cost effective app.

In order for me to return, the company are going to have to make sure:

A) all synchronization between devices and calendar and to-do servers are 100% reliable

B) put back the weather feature

C) if an annual subscription is required - drop the price by 50%

I had to post such a negative review for a program I once LOVED - but it is not the same reliable and affordable program it once was. If I was guaranteed it would be 100% flawless, then I wouldn’t mind paying a modest annual fee - but my experience with their latest releases has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Come One Informant - please GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, AND ONCE AGAIN SHOW THE LEADERSHIP THAT YOU ONCE HAD IN THIS APPLICATION NICHE!!

Longtime fan not loving it...

Sigh. I'm really trying to like informant 5. I've used pocket informant for about 8 years and have loved it and recommended it to everyone! And given that PI4 is no longer being supported, and will soon become unusable, I'm really trying to convince myself that for the extra $33 (CDN) a year, I'm getting value for my money with the new subscription model. But I have yet to find a single thing about informant 5 that is really superior to PI4.

Maybe for the super high-tech-y type user, informant 5 is a significant improvement and delivers way better functionality...but for me...meh.

Takes longer to load, occasionally buggy, less intuitive and less user friendly:

Pocket informant used to improve with each update, dramatically early on, and then gradually more subtly, but this PI4 to informant 5 change has given me nothing but a $33/year expense.

(I should note by the way, that I realize companies have to charge something - either for updates or a subscription - given that keeping an app functional requires ongoing work. I just don't think most Informant 5 subscribers are getting bang for their buck - the super-users maybe, but the average ones like me not. I think $10 CDN a year would be totally reasonable, but $33 is way overpriced)

Another customer lost

I upgraded to the new Informant 5. Which I appreciate all of the work that the developers put into. I even signed up for the year service so I could “own” the app, after my one year is up. I don’t mind paying $32 for something that will give me a lot of use.

I don’t however like subscriptions. At all....... But, like the last version, I thought I’ll buy the pro version and just won’t use their sync service. I’ll sync with google tasks just like the old one, as that was free to do on the pro version. Informant Sync was always a premium pay monthly service, which gave a couple of extra bells and whistles to make it worth some people’s money to subscribe to. I was happy with the Google Sync...

This new version I am told, will loose ALL sync services, along with syncing with Googles tasks and Calendars once my one year membership is up. Forget that!! I’m finding a new program. Sorry, you have lost a long time customer because of this.

The Apple Watch app is currently useless. Tasks don’t even show up on there unless you star them on your phone. You loose a star rating for that.
