Poor software

Cameras are pretty good, I’ve had them sitting outside for almost a year with no issues now. My problem is that anything triggers the motion detection, butterfly’s, rain..... WIND! Not the system to go with if you intend to have alerts on. Pay money for a better system.

New update lag

Since I’ve updated the app, it’s been so lagging I don’t get motion updates and it takes a good 5-6 min to even load into the camera. Never had this issue before, would give 5 star if this gets fixed!

Great Camera

I have been really enjoying the features on this camera.

They’re easy to understand and use. The playback of the videos can be entertaining. I have rabbits in my area so I feed them in the Winter and really enjoy watching them.

I like this camera so much that I ended up getting four of them.

I love that you can watch all four cameras at the same time!

The ONLY negative I have is, it’s got terrible night vision. The people and cars look like they are vaporized. The quality is very poor in my humble opinion.

However I’ve bought others to compare all the features and I always come back to YI Home.

Great work Yi, truly easy software to navigate and install . Works very well with iOS, fair price for the cameras/subscription. Only thing I wish there was is an outdoor camera from Yi, I might have missed it but would he nice to link all systems into one app.

I’ve used my one camera for over a year now

I love the ease of set up. The inexpensive cost (if compared to home security) and the ease of use. I actually have this set up in my bedroom for seizure watch. And if I had gone with any other sort of recording I would of had to watch and delete a lot of stuff. I don’t have time for that so it would be basically useless. With this camera it gives me alerts to movement so I can watch the 6 second clip and then see if it’s worth investigating. I can also see my baby’s crib next to my bed and can talk to her through the microphone to let her know I’m there still. It really is great and I want to order another one now that I’ve used one long enough to know it’s worth it.

Got screwed

After upgrade camera does not record on my SD card. Camera now is useless. Don’t buy these cameras. They want you to pay to store in cloud.

I give up

Doesn’t anybody test the software? There are so many bugs in version 2 I can’t even be bothered to list them. Activities not being picked up because of “server maintenance” is not an acceptable response. If these are security devices then the servers can’t be down, ever. This is an ongoing problem which makes the cameras nothing more than a cool toy. Make an iPad version!

Ads for paid subscriptions have been appearing for the last few versions. This has been ongoing for at least a year. Fix the thing!

After 18 back and forth emails regarding the ads appearing in their app, which really is a total piece of garbage, I have given up. Their obtuseness is staggering. I have been told at various times, it could not be removed and in 1 response I was actually told the ads were a “feature”. What I don’t understand is how it is rated so high. The hardware is actually quite good but in a few months time it will be a year that the software went south.

Update: isn’t it strange that their crap app always averages 4.5 or so. You don’t think they are rigging the results do you?

Very pleased

I am very pleased with the purchase of my YI camera. It exceeded my expectations. I use it as a baby monitor and it’s perfect. You have to open the app to see your child, but I get a notification if he’s crying as the camera as a crying detection. I’m very happy

I was paying for the 24/7 recording and went to renew through my Apple subscription not knowing it was no longer supported and was charged for it but am not receiving any type of subscription in the app 😡

Love this, but...

I was recommended this system as my traditional monitor system was costly and unreliable. This has a far better picture, is secure, makes me feel confident in the safety of my home, however the reason why I only gave 4 stars is because it would be nice if there was a split screen option to be able to view multiple cameras at once. That’s my only complaint. I’ll most definitely be getting more cameras and continuing to use this brand tho!

Forced Updates

Hate how it forces updates on you by throwing up a pop up and making the app un-useable. We had to use our data connection just to upgrade when all we needed was to quickly check up on our location. Due to crappy software we wouldn’t recommend this camera!

Not good

Customer service is not good. They won’t fix the issue and won’t replace the defective camera.

Tried their zen desk support, over the phone support with no solution to the noisy dome 1080p camera. Also, the image distortion settings won’t save. Settings keep resetting when the camera switches from the day mode to night mode.

Notifications not working on iOS

Just got the YI cameras everything works except the notifications. I’m using an iPhone 11 and O could not get notifications doesn’t matter what I try. Team, fix this ASAP!

The camera was easy to set up out of the box. Video quality is good.

I would’ve given it to 3.5 star, but the camera only picks up approximately 60%-70% of motion. When it does pick up motion, it is much delayed showing in Alerts folder.

The cost for the subscription is on the higher end for comparable devices. Manythings app for Example offer better features and for far less money per month.

Without a subscription, you are limited to a six second clip when reviewing. As well there is a 6 min “cool down” period between recording another motion event.

So easy to use and the quality is pretty awesome! Can set to ‘away’ so notifications of movement are sent to your phone. You can record video, take pics, hear audio and even speak through your phone to camera.

App Keeps Crashing

Ever since the update the app continues to crash. I’m using the camera as a baby monitor and I get it open to the live feed for a few seconds and the app just closes. No error message, it just closes.

Does not work

Pairing is ok but when I try to use the camera it always comes back with a network connection error. Even though camera is connected to the internet (blue light is on) and pairing said successful.

Update: March 30/2020...Was great, now not working properly

Update as of March 30 2020:

Literally the same thing I mentioned last time. They seems to have resolved the issue for a while, but the most recent update about a week ago has now done the exact same thing a what I had commented on before.... too bad- it had appeared to have been resolved until the most recent update.. again...

Previous review:

I was satisfied with this product for the last few months (not the greatest video quality for night vision, but good enough for a baby monitor) but since the last update (2 weeks ago) I keep getting error messages and connectivity issues- it keeps saying it can’t connect to the server.

Whatever you did in the last update really messed up the reliability of this camera. SUPER disappointed.

I also see that you commented to the last person to “wait for the server to be fixed and try again”... which is a stupid response because we don’t know how long that will take! Mine has been cutting out and not working properly for 2 weeks now.

Was a good little camera/app for the price... when it actually worked.
