This album is worth the money it costs wether you buy it at the store or on itunes it's a big hit.
The only problem is if your a fan of great big seas more dark songs, Because the songs on this album are softer then usual they are good. My personal favorites include Captain Kidd, Donkey Riding and my favorite is "Concerning Charlie's Horse. When I go to my friends we usually enjoy this music.

Whatever you think about Great Big Sea you’ll have to admit that they have played a roll in keeping Newfoundland’s traditional songs alive. On each of their nine albums they have introduced Canadians to the traditional songs of the sea and life on the East Coast. The Hard and the Easy is a loving collection of these timeless songs sung without embellishment letting the simple melodies and sparse accompaniment carry each tune. There are others who arguably can and do present Newfoundland’s musical heritage with more authenticity, but there are few artists that can bring them to an audience of the size and diversity that is the GBS audience.

Again I am stunned!!!! What an incredible cd. I can't stop listening to it. And to boot the Dvd is my fathers fav. He believes that GBS should make Alan's dad a member.
I love Come and I will Sing You and Gracefull and Charming but every song has it's own special meaning.
WTG GBS this cd is AMAZING!!!!!!!

A solid collection of traditional shanty-style songs. A good introduction for anyone interested in Newfoundland culture.

The Hard and The Easy is a fantastic addition to your GBS collection. I found the traditional Newfoundland songs really stand out as a strength of Great Big Sea. There are a lot of songs on this album that I just could not get out of my head -- which means that they were great. Old Polina, Captain Kidd, Harbour LeCou, The River Driver, Tickle Cove Pond and Concerning Charlie Horse really stand out to me.

Its about time GBS got back to the music that defines them . This album is a little on the soft side, but classic GBS. This is our music.

GBS has come through with another fun and lyrical album, perfect for sitting back with your favourite book and relaxing on a weekend. Definitely less commercial than previous albums, but if you enjoy East Coast music, this is one to add to your collection.

It is a great album but is you really like the upbeat side of GBS this is not it. I found that most the songs were more mellow then some of their other stuff. It still is a good album though.

First album I ever purchased off iTunes, actually. Easily one of my favorite albums and a definite must have for anyone interested in music from Newfoundland. It's hard to find songs that blend a story with the music so well, and it makes the music all the more entertaining.
