With the loss of two members the band decidedly go in a direction more reminiscent of Blondie, abandoning the kitsch of their previous female vocal equivalent to other boy band alt punk rockers. For the most part, despite the apocalyptic sounding "Now" and "Future", the album is light, poppy, and fun. More interested in experimenting with different sounds and styles, they have come up with songs such as the incredible soul dance rock of "Aint it Fun", 60's pop sounding "I Hate to See Your Hart Break" and "(One of Those) Crazy Girls", as well as the experimental rock song "Future". The subtle use of backing synths on this album keep bubbly under the surface of razor sharp guitars, and then on "Aint it Fun", are overwhelmed by an amazing Gospel choir at the climax of the song. Opening with the adrenaline packed, and blasting fun of "Fast in My Car" we are lead into an album of upbeat quirky songs, occasionally cut by beautiful, but equally quirky, ukelele interludes. But Paramore don't lose their edge when displaying some sugarier songs like the zany "Still Into You", or the 60's inspired ballad "I Hate To See Your Heart Brake". Where little xylophones sprinkle over soft vocals to reveal a more soft, and vulnerable sound. Due to it's sheer length it may lull at times, but this album remains their best, most fun, and most accessible work to date.
