Fine-tuned rap metal with hefty electronic influences

Meteora finds LINKIN PARK fine-tuning the electro-fuelled rap rock of their debut album, amplifying their strengths and delivering yet another blistering nu-metal triumph. "Figure.09" is laden with razor-sharp guitars and cathartic, screaming vocals, while the brisk "Breaking the Habit" layers lyrics about emotional confusion over delicate strings and zapping electronic whirrs. The real magic lies in the interplay between Chester Bennington's throat-searing voice and Mike Shinoda's sentimental, atmospheric instrumentation, both of which are on full display on the clawing desperation of "Somewhere I Belong."
