Bossa nova's brilliant inventor sings and strums over strings

With his elegantly delicate voice and subtly intense acoustic guitar, the man who invented bossa nova is a musical Rock of Gibraltar. Claus Ogerman's string arrangements add another layer of artistry to Gilberto's heavily accented version of Cole Porter's "'S Wonderful," a passionate "Besame Mucho," the upbeat "Tin Tin Por Tin Tin," and four heart-melting Antonio Carlos Jobim standards. If nothing else, the strings helped bring bossa nova to the larger audience it deserved.
