The Miami-based producer/singer trademarks his pop-positive reggaeton brand

Right from the outset, this Puerto Rican-born reggaeton singer and go-to producer boldly proclaims “This is the next level, the future.” Farruko then sets out to prove just that, his booming baritone vocals punctuating party-propelling tunes that fold arpeggio-driven melodies and choruses over thumping beats. “Obsesionado” starts sparsely, with supple, bass-leaning keyboard melodies flowing beneath his suave vocals; “HMB” turns a bit psychedelic with swirling circular samples. Ultimately, though, Shaggy and Nicky Jam take us to the climax with the feel-good Tropicália-dancehall crossover tune “Sunset.”
